At Whitburn Academy we aim to ensure equality and inclusion and promote diversity across the school.

"All human beings are born equal in dignity and rights." [Article 1 Universal Declaration of Human Rights]

As Stonewall Champions we give all students equal opportunities and show dignity and compassion to everyone regardless of their individual preferences. We aim to make Whitburn Academy a secure and happy environment where all young people can focus on their education and we promote a no tolerance approach towards bullying regardless of its nature. Stamping out homophobic bullying is a key area for development. Our equality group aims to give students the opportunity to express themselves openly and without being judged. They are keen to promote equality across the school and get a wide range of students involved in this school aim.

We welcomed Sir Ian McKellen to our school, who inspired our students and staff with his life story, his wit and his charisma. He joined us as a Stonewall role model and the students gained a real insight into his work in this area.

We will continue to work together with Stonewall to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment for all young people.
