The Get Set Get Active event is part of a yearlong national 'Get Set Beacons' campaign in which Whitburn Academy is just one of 45 schools and youth organisations from across the UK to be selected to access funding, training and materials to help get pupils get more active more often.
As part of the Get Set Beacon campaign Whitburn Academy Sports Captains have been working with Ben Boatman, Active Schools Coordinator to organise, plan and deliver activities for the Get Set Get Active event at Whitburn Community Centre. 25 Primary 7 pupils from Polkemmet Primary School where invited to attend and take part in Judo and Dance delivered by Destination Judo and SMK Danceworks as well as Basketball, Dodgeball, Football and Netball delivered by the Sports Captains.
The event was organised by West Lothian's Active Schools Coordinator Ben Boatman who said 'Congratulations to the pupils at Polkemmet Primary school and the Whitburn Academy Sports Captains for demonstration true Olympic and Paralympic values throughout the event. The Sports Captains planned and delivered excellent sports sessions which was enjoyed by all pupils who took part. Thanks also to Destination Judo and SMK Danceworks who delivered Judo and Dance sessions and to Get Set for providing guidance and support for the event'
Mr Lund' Principal Teacher at Polkemmet Primary school mentioned that' Polkemmet Primary school are having a real drive to promote Health and Wellbeing with a focus on more pupils being more active more often by taking part in extra-curricular sports clubs at breakfast and after school. This event has inspired pupils to learn more about the Olympic and Paralympic values and it is hoped that pupils will go on to have more active and healthy lifestyles as they transition to Whitburn Academy in 2019/20.
