Children's Mental Health Week 2022

Children's Mental Health Week shines a spotlight on the importance of children and young people's mental health.   This is especially important with 1 in 6 children and young people having a diagnosable mental health problem, and many more struggle with challenges from bullying to bereavement.

Throughout the week, we will be posting links on a daily basis to information relating to the campaign.

Monday 7th February Resource:

Our first resource is an app called 'SafeSpot'. SafeSpot is an app designed to help young people improve their coping skills and is available from the Apple App Store or Google Play.  SafeSpot also have a website containing games and resources, this can be found at https://safespot.org.uk/ (opens new window)

Our next resource is a YouTube video called #MindYourSelfie.  The #MindYourSelfie (opens new window) Film Resource features clips that were especially selected because they explore some important mental health themes that are particularly relevant to young people.   The video can be found at the following link: #MindYourSelfie (opens new window)

Thursday 10th February Resource:

Writing activities are a powerful tool to help teenagers come out with their feelings. It allows the expression of sensitive emotions that might be difficult to convey verbally. Such activities can help the teen gain a better perspective of their emotions while also building confidence (opens new window) and self-esteem.

  1. Imagine yourself in the future as an adult.
  2. Write a letter from your future to your present self. What advice would you give to your current self?
  3. Read it aloud. Identify issues you are experiencing now and how you would like to feel about them in the future.

Friday 11th February Resource:

Our final resource for the week is an image showing a way to beat stress by taking slow focused breaths and noticing things you see, hear, feel, smell and taste.
