Technology Used

At Whitburn Academy, we are very keen to pursue new technology and to introduce it across the school.

Information Technology

We have approx. 200 Desktop Computers in use throughout the school mainly in our 8 dedicated computer labs consisting of 3 CDT rooms, 4 Business Studies rooms and 1 Computing Science room.   Our desktop computers are supplied by Dell and  HP and in most cases are less than 5 years old.

In addition to the computer labs, we have 21 mobile classrooms, which consist of a class load of netbooks, iPads or MacBooks.   Each faculty has their own set of mobile classrooms, which consist of  devices stored in trolleys, which can be moved to any location in the school.    Our teaching staff are provided with laptops to use both in school and at home if required.  Each classroom contains an interactive Promethean Panel.

Our IT/AV staff is made up of Mr Prentice (Network Manager) and Mr Hawthorn (IT/AV Technician), who work hard to maintain our Technology. They do a wide range of tasks from replacing hardware to installing new software as well as providing school wide support for over 800 pupils and 100 staff.
