School Uniform

We know that uniform is often bought in advance of the school year, therefore this information is issued well in advance to ensure that you can purchase the correct items. Please note that uniform items sold by retailers as 'school uniform' do not always meet individual school requirements; therefore you should be guided by this policy and not the retailers offer. A visual guide to our uniform policy has been provided.

Our uniform policy is based on our core values:

• Compassion: the uniform allows all pupils to participate in education without their social background being identifiable by others
• Integrity: the uniform allows pupils to accept one another regardless of differences
• Respect: the uniform conveys a readiness to learn, and an understanding that in any organisation all participants need to adhere to the standards required

Uniform for all year groups:

Top half:

• Plain white shirt, short or long sleeved (no logos)
• School Tie (S1-4 wear a Junior tie, S5-6 wear a Senior tie). Tie must be worn on school grounds at all times, other than to take part in PE lessons
• Black v-neck sweater or cardigan (plain - no logos are permitted). No other colour other than black permitted. Senior Pupils (S5/6) wear a blazer available directly from the school.

Bottom Half:

• Trousers - plain, ordinary black school trousers are expected to be worn, and no other substitute (i.e. not legwear which is, or looks like, jeans or leggings; also, no combat trousers, no canvas trousers, no tracksuit bottoms, no corduroy, no stripes, no linen trousers); trousers should be full length and not fall short of the school shoe - i.e. no skin or sock should be visible.
• Skirt - plain, ordinary black school skirt, of an appropriate length for school. If tights are worn with a skirt, they should not be "footless", but should be full length, unpatterned and appropriate for school.

Footwear:

• Shoes - footwear must be black, no white or any other colour including sole; all black trainers are acceptable; boots are acceptable (black only - no other colour will be acceptable).
• Footwear, if laced, should have black laces and no other colour.

Accessories:

• Jewellery - simple and plain (I.e. maximum one plain ring, one plain bracelet, one pair of plain earrings and one plain necklace). Pupils will be strongly discouraged from wearing any other visible piercings. Any hair accessories should be small and plain.
• Make-up - this should be kept to an absolute minimum - i.e. no excess foundation, blusher or lip gloss/lipstick.

PE Kit:

• PE kit of t-shirt, shorts, and/or black tracksuit bottoms, with appropriate footwear 
• The school operates a 100% participation policy, therefore all pupils are required to bring and wear their PE kit. Please note: we do not require a note to excuse pupils from PE. If pupils are unable to take an active role in the class, they will participate in the lesson, in PE kit, in other ways.

Issues with Uniform:

• Pupils arriving at school without the correct uniform will be provided with uniform by the school and required to change into uniform to participate in learning.
• Parents and carers will be contacted when pupils are not wearing uniform to alert them to this, clarify what is required, and offer any items of uniform which might be needed.
• Any pupil refusing to change into school uniform will be required to return home and change into uniform before participating in learning.
• If for any reason your young person does not have the required uniform and you are unable to obtain this, please contact the school so that we can provide this.
• Clothing grants of £180 are available to eligible pupils. Applications open in June. If you need any assistance with your application, please contact the school.
